Interview practice
Interview practice appointments, lasting 45 minutes, help you prepare for interviews. They are held through Microsoft Teams or in person at the Careers Centre.
You can get help with interviews you've been invited to, or support with interviews in general.
Appointments are available Monday to Friday and are bookable up to 28 days in advance, and no later than one day in advance. You can book two interview practices per semester.
What you can get help with
The careers adviser can help with:
- a full interview simulation, where the careers adviser prepares questions to ask you and provides feedback on your answers
- general interview strategy, including tips and advice, ways to deal with nerves, and how to research an employer before an interview.
The adviser can help you prepare for various kinds of interview, like competency-based, strength-based, video, or telephone interviews.
The adviser can't provide feedback on technical or subject-specific questions. They also can't predict the exact questions or interview format you will experience.
Preparing for your appointment
If you want a full interview simulation, consider the questions the careers adviser may ask you. For example, for competency-based questions, you should prepare answers using the STAR technique.
You could also read the Careers Centre’s resources on interview skills or assessment centres.
Cancelling an appointment
Demand for appointments is high. Please cancel any appointment you are unable to attend through CareerConnect, and contact careers@st-andrews.ac.uk to confirm your cancellation.
If you do not attend your appointment within 15 minutes of the start time, the careers adviser will not continue with the appointment.
