MRes (Masters in Research) in Management

The Department of Management is research intensive, and is underpinned by a strong grounding in the social sciences. At postgraduate research level, students can benefit from internationally recognised research expertise, as acknowledged in the Research Excellence Framework (REF), while still enjoying the benefits of a small and friendly institution.

Why the MRes in Management?

The MRes programme is designed specifically as the first year of a 1 plus 3 doctoral programme (MRes plus PhD). It is not offered as a standalone Masters degree. This programme equips aspiring PhD candidates with essential research skills and a broad understanding of current management theories and practices.

Admission is by departmental recommendation only, typically for students entering the PhD programme with an undergraduate degree as their highest qualification. The MRes serves as the initial year of a four-year doctoral programme, recognised by the ESRC's Scottish Graduate School.
