Dean of the Business School

Professor Mark Brewer

Mark’s academic research focuses on the intersection of law, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability, with a particular focus on the fashion industry. Prior to his career in higher education, he practised law at three global law firms.

Dr Luca Savorelli

Luca is a health economist whose research focuses on the economics of eating behaviour, fat taxes, and social pressure to be thin. He is also interested in field experiments and has published work on innovation economics, particularly in the area of international collaborations in inventive activities.

Dr Gosia Mitka

Gosia's primary interest is in international macroeconomics, focusing on how policies in one country affect its trading partners and the coordination of monetary, macro-prudential, and trade policies to improve welfare in interconnected economies. She also explores how international cooperation can be designed, implemented, or naturally emerge from interactions between heterogeneous agents.

Professor Ruth Woodfield

Ruth is Professor of Equalities and Organisation in the Department of Management, which she joined in 2013 from the University of Sussex where she was Professor of Sociology. Her research primarily focuses on gender differences and inequalities in the context of work and education. As well as her academic writing, she has been commissioned by national and international organisations to produce research reports on issues related to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Professor Conny Wollbrant

Conny received his BSc in Economics from the University of York, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and a PhD from the University of Gothenburg, and held tenured positions at both the University of Gothenburg and the University of Stirling before joining the University of St Andrews in 2022. He is a member of the UK Financial Conduct Authority's Research Ethics Panel and is involved in the NERC-funded SPACES project to improve waste management in Tanzania and Malawi.

Professor John Wilson

John is Professor of Banking and Finance, Head of the Department of Finance, and Director of the Centre for Responsible Banking and Finance at the University of St Andrews. He serves on multiple editorial boards, including the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, and has held significant roles such as Treasurer of the British Accounting and Finance Association and full panel member of the 2021 Research Evaluation Framework Sub-panel for Business and Management Studies.

Professor Kirstie Ball

Kirstie is a Professor in Management and co-director of CRISP, specialising in surveillance, privacy, and security studies, with extensive experience across multiple universities. She has authored and edited significant works on surveillance and frequently advises NGOs, research bodies, and media organisations on these topics.

Dr Vicky Ward

Vicky is a Reader in Management at the University of St Andrews Business School and serves as Director of Impact and Innovation. Passionate about knowledge mobilisation, she leads the RURU Network, chairs the UK Knowledge Mobilisation Forum, and actively supports efforts to make a difference with research.

Julie Brooks

Julie focuses on enhancing the student experience and recruiting students for the taught Masters Programmes. Her academic interests include marketing, consumer behaviour, and corporate social responsibility, with a particular focus on the impact of marketing on society and experience in business education in Russia.

Dr Fergus Neville

Fergus joined the School in January 2019 after holding postdoctoral positions in the Schools of Medicine and Psychology, and has also been a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Dundee and a Guest Professor at the Universität Bayreuth.

Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Dr Sandra Romenska

Sandra joined the former School of Management in August 2014, bringing expertise in leadership, organisational change, and human resource management. She has previously lectured at Worcester Business School and researched at the University of Leicester, and has delivered training and spoken at events such as the Project Management Institute Global Congress and UNESCO.

Academic Director of Executive Education

Dr Marcel Lukas

Marcel is a Senior Lecturer in Banking and Finance at the University of St Andrews, a position he has held since August 2020. Previously an Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University, he completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh on FinTech and its impact on financial behaviour, and has a background in project management at Volkswagen and consulting with IBM.

Timothy Ringrose

Tim’s career has been devoted to developing talent, building leadership capability, and facilitating sustainable organisational growth and business transformation. With 25 years’ global experience in executive education and organisational development, Tim joined St Andrews in July 2024 to take the helm of Executive Education and establish the University of St Andrews as a world-class provider of executive development.

Dr Torsten Matzke

Torsten leads professional services in the Business School and is responsible for strategic and operational planning, resourcing, staffing, and budget management. He previously worked in international partnerships and student recruitment and has an academic background in political science.
