The Afterlife of a Pagan Hero in a Christian Capital.
Dr Lenia Kouneni has a new paper published, ‘The Afterlife of a Pagan Hero in a Christian Capital: ‘Antique Sculptures of Hercules in Constantinople’, in Studies in Byzantine History and Culture A Festschrift for Paul Magdalino.
As a tribute to Prof Paul Magdalino, the chapter brings together and discusses the antique images of Hercules in Constantinople, in an effort to examine the lasting legacy of the hero and possible reasons for his popularity.
