St Andrews represents on museology committee

7 November 2022

Professor Karen Brown, School of Art History, was elected as the new Chairperson of the International Committee for Museology (ICOFOM). The committee researches, studies and disseminates the theoretical basis of museology as an independent scientific discipline, critically analysing the main trends of contemporary museology.

Founded in 1977, it constitutes members from around the globe that deal with museums-related specific functions and the social role of museums. Year after year, in collaboration with the UNESCO Agency, the International Council of Museums (ICOM), ICOFOM facilitates scientific and academic meetings in different countries to ensure significant exchanges among our professionals worldwide.

Professor Brown is preceded by the School of Art History’s new Lecturer in Museum & Heritage Studies, Professor Bruno Brulon Soares, who remains on the board and is accompanied by the School of Art History’s Research Fellow, Jamie Allan Brown, who also was elected to the executive board.
