Abstract
This paper introduces the notion of ‘Conceptual Injustice’, which occurs when a person, group or phenomenon is wrongfully excluded from a concept. I present some examples, such as the exclusion of transgender women from the concept ‘woman’ and lay out the distinctive harms (agential, practical, intellectual) that it leads to. Finally, I show how conceptual injustice can provide us with a better understanding of hermeneutical injustice (Fricker 2007) and how awareness of conceptual injustice can improve the practice of conceptual engineering.
