Agnes Blackadder Hall undergraduate accommodation

Agnes Blackadder Hall, named after the first female graduate of the University, is a four-storey building on North Haugh near the various Science buildings.

It is also near the sports centre and is only a 15-minute walk from the centre of town. 

Agnes Blackadder Hall is available to undergraduate students only.

Fees vary depending on whether you are staying in catered or self-catered accommodation, whether your room is standard or en suite, and whether you are sharing or not. Hall information

Agnes Blackadder Hall offers self-catered en suite and catered en suite undergraduate accommodation. 

If you select a catered contract, meals are provided in the dining room. 

  • Monday to Friday: breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Saturday and Sunday: breakfast and lunch.  

All students also have access to a shared kitchen at the end of their corridor. Each kitchen is shared by between 7 and 14 students.

Location

Agnes Blackadder Hall is on North Haugh on the western edge of town, near the Science buildings and the sports centre.

It is only a 15-minute walk to the centre of town, and only a ten-minute walk to West Sands beach and the Old Course golf links.

Bedroom

Bedding is not included. You can bring your own duvet, blankets and pillow cases, or order bedding before arriving in St Andrews. Find out more on the bedding information page.

Agnes Blackadder Hall has: 

  • 94 single self-catered en suite rooms with double beds 
  • 379 single catered en suite rooms with double beds 
  • 28 shared en suite rooms (catered or self-catered) with double beds.

Large twin/family room in Agnes Blackadder Hall

Bedrooms have a double bed (approximately 4 feet 6 inches wide), and the following furniture:

  • desk, chair and desk lighting
  • mattress and mattress protector
  • shelves, wardrobe and drawer unit
  • general waste and recycling bins.

Facilities

Agnes Blackadder Hall has the following for all residents to use:

Laundry 

The laundry room has card-operated washers and dryers. 


Computer room 

The computer room has nine computers which students can use at all hours. 


Music room 

A small soundproof room for residents to practise in. It has an electric piano, drum kit and other equipment. 


Games room 

The main common room is where most hall events take place. It has sofas, pool tables, board games, and a projector. 


Prayer room 

On the third floor there is a prayer room, which students of any religion can use. There is also a study room in the same large room. 


Internet and television

Cleaning

You are expected to keep your residence clean and tidy. University staff may carry out regular inspections. Check the Cleaning your student accommodation guide for more information.


Kitchen

There are shared kitchens in the hall. Each kitchen has the following:

  • kettle
  • fridge and freezer
  • microwave
  • oven
  • electric cooker with electric hob
  • basin, cutlery tray and sink tidy
  • steam iron and ironing board
  • dustpan and brush, broom, mop and bucket, and vacuum cleaner
  • general waste and recycling bins.

Bar

The Forbes Bar is available for students to study and socialise.


Parking

Free parking for residents. There are six electric vehicle chargers available.

Most students choose to cycle or walk in St Andrews as University buildings and other places in town are not too far away from each other. There is secure bike storage on site. Learn more about how to travel to and around St Andrews.

To park a car in a University building, you must get a student car parking permit.


Support

Each Residence has a team of staff who manage reception, porter and housekeeping teams and work closely with Catering, Halls Life and wardens and the Student Committee to ensure the hall operates smoothly and to help you enjoy your time in student accommodation. 

From 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, these staff can answer questions about your accommodation and help you get help from other parts of the University. 

All University halls of residence also have their own Halls Life and wardennial team who live within the hall and are trained to support students with advice on anything from academic matters through to first aid. New students will meet their warden and team of assistant wardens during their moving-in weekend.
