Biomedical Sciences Research Complex (BSRC)
Biomedical Sciences Research Complex (BSRC)
BSRC is an integrated research complex that includes the Centre for Biomolecular Sciences (BMS) and a new £12M extension to be completed by the end of 2011. This world-class research facility brings together scientists from Biology, Chemistry, Medicine and Physics engaged in research into infection and immunity. Over 160 staff, including over 60 PhD students, have access to state-of-the-art facilities. A new Medical Sciences building, adjacent to BSRC, will open in 2010.
Virology is one of the key strengths of the BSRC, with 11 principal investigators engaged in understanding the interaction between viruses and their hosts, together with the development of new vaccines and antiviral therapeutics.
Core facilities in BSRC include proteomics (mass spectrometry), tissue culture (including BL3 lab), imaging (confocals), structural biology and biophysics (X-ray, NMR, EPR, ITC, CD), protein expression and purification, bioinformatics, synthetic chemistry, high throughput screening and drug discovery.
