Research areas
My research principally focuses on English and French print culture in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, with a particular concern for the output and circulation of religious controversy during that period. I was awarded my PhD in 2013 for a study of Religious Controversy in the Sixteenth Century. Most recently I have begun research on the buying and selling of early modern editions in contemporary booklists and auction catalogues. In addition, I have also conducted various bibliographic investigations into mathematical and medical texts published through Europe in the early modern period. I am currently Project Manager of the Universal Short Title Catalogue (USTC), a digital bibliography of printed early modern editions. Prior to this position, I worked as technical manager of the USTC, a research assistant on a Leverhulme sponsored project to catalogue early mathematical editions, and as a research assistant on a Wellcome Trust sponsored project to catalogue medical books in Northern Europe. I teach on aspects of material bibliography and digital humanities, covering a broad range of topics and techniques. I also act as a technical consultant and academic advisor on various digital projects including Early European Books (ProQuest) and Historical Texts (JISC).
