Frequently asked questions

• In-person registration information

  What time should I arrive?

  Registration begins at 9am and runs throughout the morning. We recommend registering no later than 30 minutes before the start of your first session.

  There is an information fair that runs from 9am to 12 noon for you to meet with various units and representatives from around the University.

  We recommend spending the full day in St Andrews to get the most out of your day. Talks run from 9.30am and many of the non-academic sessions are in the morning. If you have booked your place at the event, make sure to check your personalised itinerary for bookable sessions, and to consult the 'Planning your visit' email for further session details.

  What time does the day end?

  Most sessions are complete by 4pm, however, some may run until 4.30pm. Please check your personalised itinerary.

  Guests

  Guests are limited to one person per prospective student. Priority is given to prospective students and guests may be asked to give up their seat if space is limited.

• What to expect on an in-person visiting day

  Registration

  Time: please try to register between 9am and 11am 
  Location: Lower College Hall, St Salvator's Quad

  To make the most of your day we advise registering as early as possible or at least 30 minutes before the start of your first booked session. When you register, you will receive a visiting day itinerary, which a student ambassador will talk you through. Your personal itinerary will be available on your phone or personal device.

  Lower College Hall stands

  Time: between 9am and 12.30pm
  Location: Lower College Hall, St Salvator's Quad

  Representatives from across the University will be available throughout the morning to provide information and answer any questions you may have about the University, student life, and admissions.

  Admissions staff will be available in Lower College Hall from 9am to 4pm should you have any further questions.

  Welcome to St Andrews

  Time: Various
  Duration: 30 minutes

  These sessions are held by a member of staff from Admissions and are an introduction to various aspects of St Andrews. The talks cover studying at the University and our academic structure, the town, and scholarships.

  Study abroad talk

  Time: To be confirmed
  Duration: 30 minutes

  Learn about study abroad opportunities available through St Andrews and hear from a student about their experience.

  ---

  University town tour

  Time: departing every 15 minutes from 9.15am to 1pm
  Duration: 30 minutes
  Location: Lower College Hall, St Salvator's Quad

  These tours take you around the central streets and main University buildings of St Andrews and will incorporate information on the University’s history as well as student life and University traditions. Tours will end at the Students' Association on St Mary's Place.

  Halls of residence tours

  Time: departing every 15 minutes from 10am to 2pm
  Duration: 30 minutes
  Location: Agnes Blackadder Hall, Andrew Melville Hall, McIntosh Hall, University Hall

  These tours will allow you to view the common areas of our Halls of Residence as well as a typical bedroom. At peak times, a short wait may be required for tours.

  Subject talks

  Time: 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm
  Duration: 50 minutes

  You are able to attend up to two subject talks. This is an opportunity for you to learn more about your chosen course as well as an additional subject. You will hear from academics about the course and ask questions.

• In-person accessibility information

  Please email admissions.events@st-andrews.ac.uk with any accessibility requirements so we can support you ahead of and during the event.

  A quiet space will be available throughout the day if your or your guest requires it. Please ask our Student Ambassadors or a member of Admissions staff for further information and the location of these spaces on the event day.

  If you require a BSL interpreter in order to participate, please contact us by emailing admissions.events@st-andrews.ac.uk.  Please reach out as early as possible, so we can make appropriate arrangements to meet your needs.

• Who you can meet

  You will meet a wide variety of staff and students from St Andrews and make sure all of your questions are answered.

  • Academic staff: sign up to an academic session to meet our academic staff and find out more about your course.
  • Current students: go to the ask a student help desk to meet a variety of current students and ask them questions about their experiences living and studying in St Andrews.
  • Saints Sport: come to the sports stand to learn more about the many ways you can get involved in sport and fitness at St Andrews.
  • Admissions: come to the Admissions help desk to ask about how to apply, entry requirements, accommodation, visas, and more.
  • Teams from around the University: get questions about visas, fees, student support and more answered during each event.

• Travel information

  How can I get to St Andrews?

  Parking in St Andrews is always at a premium so we recommend taking a train or bus if you can.  

  If you are arriving by car, we strongly recommend the North Haugh car parks, particularly the Petheram Bridge car park.

  Accessible parking is available. Please contact admissions.events@st-andrews.ac.uk in advance for details.

  Luggage

  Unfortunately, the University is unable to look after left luggage. Limited storage is available at the St Andrews Bus Station.

• Online visiting day schedule

  To join our online visiting days, you must book at least one day in advance. 

  Once you have joined the event, you will be able to take advantage of a number of live talks, sessions, and booths where you can find out everything you need to know about St Andrews.

  Live talks and sessions will include:

  • BA International Honours programme
  • Ask a Current Student Q&A
  • Subject talks

  You are able to attend up to three subject talks. This is an opportunity for you to learn more about your chosen course as well as an additional subject. You will hear from academics about the course and be able to ask questions.

  All-day helpdesks

  If at any point during the event you have questions or are unsure of where to go next and what you can do, come along to our Admissions and Ask a Student helpdesks or talks, available 12pm to 5pm.

• If you cannot attend

  Virtual visiting experience

  Explore St Andrews online. Get a feel for the University and the town through our virtual visiting experience, featuring video tours and content from our students.

  Talk and tour

  Admissions offers a talk and tour programme on Mondays and Fridays, which allows you to have a tour with a current student and meet an Admissions Officer.

  Virtual information sessions

  We strongly recommend that prospective students attend one of our scheduled visiting days, but if you are unable to make the dates listed, you are welcome to book a virtual information session on a day that suits you, from Monday to Friday. 

  Cancellations

  You can cancel your booking online through the link in your confirmation email or by contacting the visiting days team at admissions.events@st-andrews.ac.uk as soon as possible.
